Google pushes Play Movies into 37 new markets, including 16 in Latin America

Over-the-top movie services in Latin America have rolled out in fits and starts, and, they’ve met with mixed success. When Totalmovie – backed by Gruppo Salinas – was launched in 2011, it was ballyhooed as LatAm’s first legal premium streaming service and seen as a potential Netflix killer. After expanding to some 40 countries in the region, it was gobbled up by OTT Networks to launch a white label internet TV-as-a-service firm called UUX that closed its retail site in favor of offering a wholesale service to mobile and fixed line operators.
