Ooyala wins Streaming Media European Readers’ Choice Award for analytics/QoS

Ooyala’s Backlot has won a 2014 Streaming Media European Readers' Choice Award for Analytics/QoS, beating out runners-up Alcatel-Lucent’s Motive Big Networks Analytics and Sawmill Analytics’ Sawmill 8. Streaming Media said this year’s awards were its biggest ever with 352 nominees and more than 3,000 voters determining the winners. The amount of interest in the awards shows “that while online video is truly a global industry, there is significant interest in and need for regional solutions and vendors,” Streaming Media wrote.

APJ UPDATE: Asia Pacific Operator Summit, new hires, new Singapore office

It’s been a busy couple of months for Ooyala’s Asia/Pacific/Japan office. Ooyala was a sponsor of the Asia Pacific Operator Summit (APOS) recently, a very targeted conference of about 600 senior executive attendees mainly from pay-tv operators, content owners and content aggregators from around Asia. The summit produced a number of great meetings and discussions about the space and how to work with companies to deliver quality video – with deep analytics – in a region that’s poised to see tremendous growth.

TubeMogul: 4Q programmatic video ads saw inventory, CPM gains

Tube Mogul reports the programmatic video ad market grew globally, with inventory and mobile CPMs seeing gains in the regions in which it operates. TubeMogul said U.S. pre-roll inventory grew 112% through the quarter, with week-over-week increases across all tiers in November and December. Publishers ramping up available inventory for the beginning of the holiday season generated the largest jump the week of Thanksgiving.

Research firm Ovum believes that 20% of all audience viewing hours will be delivered over IP by 2017. The researcher also found that 17% of the 16-to-24 age range report that they watch less linear TV now due to their consumption of web video services.
