Tennis, Anyone? Ooyala Live Streams Australian Open

January 18, 2012

The 2012 Australian Open is in full swing and we are pleased to have partnered with Tennis Australia to live stream the Grand Slam tournament this year. We are delivering all the video content on the website, which includes live coverage from all seven of the tournament’s courts.

Ooyala is now the official online media partner for streaming live matches, highlights and interviews from “The Grand Slam of the Asia Pacific.” We designed the custom video player as well as the user interface on the Australian Open Video Page.

In addition to helping Tennis Australia monetize its online video offering with a variety of video advertising tools, Ooyala will also power seamless multi-device delivery to tablets, smartphones and other devices. Our technology makes it easy for Tennis Australia to syndicate videos to YouTube and other news and sports websites.

“This is an important first for tennis and the world of sports, delivering the excitement and action of the Australian Open to people around the world who otherwise may never experience the tournament,” said Steve Wood chief executive officer of Tennis Australia. “Ooyala’s combination of technology and services are the perfect solution to the myriad of challenges involved in sophisticated delivery of a live video project of this scale. We are thrilled to be working with their team to take the Australian Open to the web for free for the first time.”

Ooyala also handles important geographic content access restrictions to comply with Tennis Australia’s broadcast partner requirements (so online live-stream coverage may not be available in your local market). We are proud to deliver live streaming coverage of this event to tennis fans around the world. You can read our official press release here.
