Philips Connected TVs Feature YouTube Rentals

September 10, 2012

Renting movies from YouTube will soon be possible on connected TVs from Philips.

TP Vision, which manufactures Philips sets internationally, is set to launch a new movie-rental platform called YouTube Rentals by the end of the year. The feature will debut on its connected TVs in select European countries before rolling to other manufacturers' Web-enabled sets in the coming months.

Though YouTube added rentals to its Google TV app, this will be first time it'll do so on a non-Google platform. TP Vision is a member of the Smart TV Alliance, which hopes to create a standardized ecosystem and apps for connected TVs.
