August 9, 2012

Despite some viewers' gripes with NBC tape delays, the network's seeing great traffic. To fully illustrate this, we've decided to put together a by-the-numbers look of the network's success from the first few days of video streaming:

  • Visitors to NBCOlympics.com: almost 28 million, an 8 percent rise compared with the Beijing Olympics

  • NBCOlympics.com page views: 744 million, up from 160 million from the last Olympics

  • Total video streams across all platforms: 64 million, 182 percent increase from Beijing

  • Hours of live video served: 5.3 million — the first five days has surpassed the total number of hours streamed at the Beijing Olympics

  • Visitors to mobile site: 4.6 million, twice the number from 2008

  • NBC app downloads: More than 6 million

  • Percent of streams from tablets and smartphones: 45 percent

  • Number of viewers for opening ceremony: 34.9 million, or 18.8 percent of TV households

  • Cost for NBC for the rights to broadcast the London Games: $1.3 billion

  • Amount NBC lost in Beijing Olympics: $223 million

  • NBC's projected loss for the London Olympics: The network now expects to break even, revised from a $200 million loss.
