It’s great to see our customers get the credit they deserve.
Iroko, the largest online distributor of Nollywood cinema, is dominating the African movie business. As the story points out, Nollywood is the most prolific film industry in the world, with more than 2,500 releases in 2005, versus 485 in the United States and 1,091 in India.
But Iroko’s sights are set on something bigger. The story credits Iroko founder Jason Njoku for “creating the next Netflix in Nigeria,” but forget Netflix, these guys are aiming to be the next Viacom.
"We love content, and we want to figure out the best ways to do it. The Internet is just the easiest." He feels no need, anymore, to apologize for being an African company. "They always paint us with a guilty Nigerian brush, so we have to say, just look at our numbers," Njoku says. "What happens if a billion people come online? What happens to our numbers then?"
Iroko has just begun to capitalize on the tremendous growth opportunities and Ooyala's products -- from our video player and transcoding to ad integration and analytics -- are a key part of their success.
Congrats to Iroko on their accomplishments thus far. We’re thrilled to be a part of it.
