Facebook Lost 5 Million Video Viewers in August

September 19, 2012

ComScore's latest video rankings are out, and Facebook video views are down. In July, we wrote about Facebook's rise to the No. 2 video site. But new data shows the social network wasn't able to hold on to this spot, dropping down to No. 5 after losing about 5 million viewers.

Overall, 188 million viewers -- an all-time high -- watched online videos in August, averageng 1,335.4 minutes each. Most of them (150.2 million) visited Google/YouTube, where they spent about 443.3 minutes a person. Yahoo, Microsoft and Vevo placed second, third and fourth in total unique viewers, respectively.

With online video ad properties, Hulu dropped from No. 2 to No. 4, though comScore says its methodology changes affected Hulu's data collection in August. Hulu, however, continues to lead with the number of ads per viewer, averaging 50.7. Google again was the largest ad property, delivering 1.7 billion of August's 9.5 billion online video ads. The top five properties all delivered at least 1 million ads in August.
