We recently caught up with Jeremy Toeman, Chief Product Officer at Dijit
at OTTCON and discussed social TV, the second screen and the future of content discovery.
On the most exciting part of TV tech:
"The most interesting thing about TV today is actually on the second screen. We see so much experimentation [there]. It's the one place where . . . entrepreneurs can just innovate."
"BSkyB, TimeWarner, Comcast - all these guys are actually taking chances on tiny little startups. It's fun to see that innovation."
On the second screen:
"It's like the wild west and the early days of the web are finally starting to hit the TV - and most of it is through the second screen."
"You need to think about the first and second screens very differently."
TV as escape:
"I look at TV as an escape vehicle
, it's not just entertainment, it's actually escape, which is a totally different thing than entertainment."
On content discovery:
"Content recommendation, or discovery, is going to be more and more influenced by social . . . and the interest graph"
On the return of Arrested Development:
"There's always money in the banana stand"
