Black Friday Report: A Peek at Kindle Fire and Early Adopters (Infographic)

November 25, 2011

We know it's early in the game for Amazon and the Kindle Fire. But being the video analytics geeks that we are, we couldn't resist taking a peek at how Fire owners are watching video.

Using device-based reporting, we reviewed video plays in the U.S. over the first 5 days after Amazon started shipping the Fire on Monday, November 14. Here's what we found:

  • Among U.S. cities, Los Angeles, New York and Seattle saw the highest number of total video plays. Meanwhile Seattle, which is home to Amazon's headquarters, topped the list in plays per capita.
  • California edged out Texas as the state with the highest number of number of video displays.
  • During these first few days, Kindle Fire owners were about 20 times more likely to watch videos on a tech website than a typical iPad user. We chalk this up to an early adopter effect: technology enthusiasts tend to get their hands on new gadgets first and they tend to like tech-related content.

Finally, the amount of video played on Amazon's new tablet is undeniably increasing countrywide. As more folks get their hands on the Fire in the weeks ahead, we'll be sure to provide updates on what these growth numbers look like.

Without further ado, here's the infographic:
